The Lady with the Dog Reading Journal
The Lady with the Dog, By Anton Chekhov (1899)
Rating: 8/10
It is the story about infidelity. It's fundamentally a romance story, but not kind of THAT romance.
Anna Sergeyevna and Gurov is at Yalta for their each reasons. They met in sudden and shared their love. Both were married. Gurov is kind of playboy and Anna doesn't like her husband as she think he is a flunkey. After their first relationship, Gurov doesn't seem to considering Anna even she cried. He just eats the watermelon without no haste: it's a Chekhov's gun: "If it's not going to be fired, it shouldn't be hanging there". He knows that he's not kind. But he loves her and keep shared their love.
As Gurov was kind of playboy, his wife knew he was cheating. (She said "lady-killer does not suit" and made fun of him) Gurov was loving her, they kept cheat. She lived at kind of slum, and both were too good for the place. And story ends with the next meet promise.
Chekhov is good at describing love sick. I rated 8 as I liked the ending. Good story needs to make the readers to authors and it does. It was good choice to let the ending to new beginning. (199 words)
